2014 Snipes Mountain
100% Grenache. Upland Vineyard.
As you may know by now, we love Upland Vineyard. This year, we had a little more, and our single AVA bottling features two of our favorite barrels. When sampling and blending, we look for those that stand out as having the characteristics we feel strongly identify with Upland Vineyard: red fruit driven, with an elegance and purity more often found in pinot noir.
Tasting Notes: This gorgeous grenache opens with sun-ripened strawberries, a hint of brambly wild berry, pomegranate, and warm spice. While tasting with friends it was described “like a slow jam” - a little sexy, spicy, and elegant. The 2014 Snipes Mountain is one of those wines makes you sit up straight and pay attention to all of the little nuances swirling around: deep red fruit, cinnamon, allspice and clove that all linger and dance gently through the finish.

Review of Washington Wines, 19.5/20 points
Sourced from the Upland Vineyard, this displays a brick red color and seductive aromas of fraises de bois, wild cranberry, pomegranate and cassis, with scents of crushed roses, sweet tobacco, dried orange peel, lavender, violets, white pepper and sultry oriental incense. The flavors, as well, are striking, with medium bodied yet vigorous red fruits that are endowed with notes of red licorice, cocoa powder, Arabica roast and Snipes Mountain gravelly earth. On the back, the wine builds up with sensations of pressed fruits, roasted hazelnuts, pomegranate seeds, recurring orange peel, crème de cassis and finely ground charcoal. At 13.9% alcohol and with fine fruit acids, the wine shows superb balance, all culminating in a lingering, satiny moderate tannin finish.
